Recently we’ve been revisiting memories of some our favorite treks in Garhwal. Roopkund-Junargali-Homkund is one such trek. It was 2009 June, when 5 of us hiked this bewitchingly beautiful trek. Shila-samudra , a garden of eden, hidden by Trishul & Nanda-ghunti was the place who astonished me most, Here are some photos from that adventure.
- Climbing steep Junargali col through soft snow and loose rotten rock. Had to use rope.
- At the Col. 17700 feet. Mt. Nandaghunti and Mt. Trishul is visible. Our route eventually climbs towards the junction area of these two peaks , where lies the Ronti saddle. Lake Homkund situated at the base of the saddle..
- Crossing Shila-samudra glacier, on the way to Dodang.
- 1) Junar gali col. 2) Shila-samudra meadow. The down pointing arrow shows the location of the Shila-samudra glacier coming from left. Taken from dodang campsite, which as we can see is a rock shelter.
- Plodding towards Ronti saddle through old moraine ridges. .
