Killing in God’s Abode ~ The Plight of Govind Wildlife Sanctuary , Uttarkashi

Destruction in National Park, Govind Pashu National Park

I would like to bring to your attention the painful observations I made while trekking in Govind Wildlife Sanctuary , Uttarkashi.
We went there this Spring season, date of Entry being 8th May’2016 via Mori.
While trekking in the area of Ruinsara taal & Kiarkoti , we came across a group of people , mutiple times.
We were told they were Hunters, hunting for Forest animals , especially Mountain goat , deer etc.

Destruction of Forest

They were 5 people in total, but they were roaming in separate group of 1 & 2.

One day early morning we heard Gunshot , afterwards we observed the hunters carrying down some carcass of what looked like 2 mountain goat(s) or deer(s).

We used binoculars to locate them , as they were very far.

Going back towards Osla village, a few days later , we found Blood stains on the road and feathers of Monal (both male & female).

Apparently , some people are having a feast on the Most Important Protected Species of our Nation & the state of Uttarakhand.
———

The villagers were from village Gangar , as we were informed.

——-
I would like to bring to your notice this dangerous trend of local people for hunting for fun.

Can our forests afford this activity?

Are the grass root workers of Forest Department aware of this trend?

Are we tolerant about this kind of Criminal killing of our animals?

What hope we have for our wildlife in the Holiest of our Himalayan states, Uttarakhand?

If we cant act now, When ?

If we can’t change this trend Now ? Its all over soon.
